Maintaining Your Handshake Account After Graduation

Congratulations on your recent, or pending graduation! With a few steps outlined below, you can keep your Handshake account. Your Handshake account is currently affiliated with your UC Davis email address. Since UC Davis will be converting your school email address shortly after you graduate from @ucdavis.edu to @formerstudents.ucdavis.edu and then eventually closing and retiring the email address, it is recommended that you add an alternate personal email address to your Handshake account and use it as your primary email address. To do this please follow these directions from Handshake.

To prevent having duplicate accounts in the system, please do not request a new Handshake account – You already have a Handshake account associated with your campus email address. Before requesting a new account try logging in to your existing account or requesting help by emailing careercenterreception@ucdavis.edu.

If you have requested a new Handshake account – you will need to delete the request prior to adding your personal email address to your existing Handshake account:

  1. To delete the account you created with your personal email address, submit a ticket to Handshake’s support team using their request form.

  2. Specify that you are wanting to delete the new account created with your personal email address in the description of the request.

  3. After the account is deleted and your personal email address is freed up in the system, log into your account that was created with your UC Davis email address.

    • If you still have access to your UC Davis CAS credentials, use that to log in.

    • If you no longer have access to your UC Davis CAS credentials but still have access to your UC Davis email account, set up and use Handshake credentials. Instructions are found in this article.

    • If you no longer have access to your UC Davis CAS credentials or UC Davis email account, contact the Career Center.

  4. Once you are logged in, add one or more personal email addresses to your Handshake account and configure one of them as your primary email address for your account. Instructions are found in this article.

We wish you well with your next steps. Remember, you can access all Career Center services for a year following graduation, and many of them (workshop and career fair attendance) without limits. We are, and will be here to help you!

  • Establish and maintain mentor relationships with people who can help you professionally.
  • Display curiosity; voluntarily participate in further education, training or other developmental events.
