For-Credit Career Courses

Special Note for Postdocs

Postdocs must request a Handshake account to gain access to our services and events. Use your UC Davis email address and follow the instructions to request a student account. After you have made the request, email careercenter@ucdavis.edu to expedite the approval process. Once approved, edit your profile and set your school year to postdoctoral studies.

Career Services for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars*

The Career Center offers services to UC Davis master's students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral scholars and recent graduate program alumni.

Specifically for advanced degree applicants, we have tailored resources on pursuing Careers in Academia and Non-Academic Careers. Additionally, the Career Center offers a For-Credit Career Course in partnership with the Department of American Studies.

Regardless of your career path, we are here to help and offer the following services:

Advising Appointments

Career Advisors with expertise in assisting advanced degree applicants can help you with all aspects of your career search. Advising appointments can be made through Handshake within the Career Center section.

  • Common appointment topics include:
    • Exploring career options with an advanced degree
    • Academic job materials preparation and review
    • Job or internship search
    • CV review
    • Resume review
    • Cover letter review
    • Interview preparation
    • Offer negotiation
    • LinkedIn profile review
    • Career planning and goal setting

Workshops

The Career Center offers workshops specially designed for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Our workshops will help you prepare your application documents and explore opportunities for careers with an advanced degree.

To find workshops, search “Grad Student” or “Postdoc” in the Events section of Handshake.

Some past workshops have been recorded and are available on our YouTube channel.

Recruiting and Networking Events

The Career Center offers a variety of events to help you find career opportunities. These events range from employer information sessions to career fairs. Even if the event is not directly titled as being for advanced degrees, they are a great way to network while also exploring various positions and employers.

Events offered by the Career Center and employers can be found in the Events section of Handshake.

Resume Review +

Resume Review+ is a service offered by the Career Center to have your resume, CV or cover letter reviewed without an appointment. Follow the instructions to submit your document and our Graduate Peer Advisor will provide you with specific feedback within 5 business days.
